Braided Rug

Problem: I want a rug for my front room and to us up some of my excess scrap fabric from past sewing projects.

Idea: Make a braided rug from the the piles and piles of fabric that I have kept in the spare room.

How did it work?

Well, it turned out really well actually. The main issue I had was the amount of fabric one of these babies takes to make. I ran out of scraps and had to start using my yards of good quilting fabric to get the size I wanted.

Steps:

Cut fabric or scraps into long strips. Most of my scrap pieces were different widths from each other, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

This chick can not handle loose strings everywhere so I used my sewing machine to hem up the edges of the fabric and also to sew the different piece long fabric strips together to make a rope.

Sew the top of three strips together and start braiding.

I have sewn the braided ropes together at the bottom of the rug with needle or thread. I'm sure there are other ways to go about this, but this is how I did it. This is the back of the rug. you have to look close but you can see yellow quilting thread used to sew the braids to together.

I'm not done yet, but you get the point of how it turns out. It's go big or go home on this rug. More pictures to come when I finish it up.
